What is the best way to get the perfect design for your tattoo?
What is the best way to get the perfect design for your tattoo?
It is a question that for many people means going on the internet and spending hours trawling through numerous tattoo design pages looking through shoddy tribal or star designs done by some amateur on their computer.
No my friends the best way to get the 100% correct design for you is to do it yourself. I know it is harder said than done; some people can’t draw and some people just don’t know what they want. Well if you are someone that falls in to those categories don’t worry, i am going to tell you how to make sure you get exactly what you are after.
Firstly, if you can kinda draw then your best bet is to make some attempt of it, even if it is just an outline or some scribble on a piece of napkin, anything is better than nothing. If you go to any good tattoo artist they will no what to ask and how to clearly see what it is that you want.
Secondly i would recommend that you use the great and wise internet to find some images;i know i said that it could take hours but they only have to be loosely connected to what you are thinking of, but at least you have a starting point from which the artist can begin to create something.
Finally, failing that you can’t draw to save your life, or are to ashamed to show it to your artist, your best option would be to make a list of what is included in your design, e.g. if i was after a pin up, the list would include:
- Placement - Forearm
- Theme - Cowgirl
- Colour or black and grey? Your choice.
- Position of tattoo - Do you want it stood up, bent over, laid down?
These are all the things that start to make impressions on paper and get the creative juices flowing.
Off-course the only sure fire way of getting exactly what you want after doing either or all of these steps is to keep seeing what your artist has drawn up for you, and changing it where it is needed. It is better to be thorough than have a tattoo that isn’t quite perfect for you, that lasts the rest of your life.
That’s all for now people, i hope that this has helped you in getting the right design. Next week i am going to be talking about my views on tribal tattoos, so keep on the lookout for that.
